I enjoy creating things.  I don't consider myself particularly artistic, or even creative.  I like the process of starting with nothing, working hard, and having a tangible product at the end.  My career counseling friends would say this is because I'm an "ST."  I think I share my love of creating with my brother, Bryce Brecheisen, who helps create movies in Santa Monica, CA.

Grad Student Programs
The process of creating a new line of career programming for graduate students at the University of Washington has been fun and rewarding.  I enjoy creating the vision and the big picture as the leader of the programming efforts, but I also enjoy creating individual workshops, handouts, calendars, marketing strategies, collaborative relationships, etc.

Birthday Bags
My love of creating things is one reason I enjoy working with Cheerful Givers, a non-profit organization that strives to brighten and celebrate the lives of families in need by providing toy-filled birthday gift bags for children who are homeless or living in poverty.  I enjoy shopping for fun gift items (which is one of the only types of shopping I find remotely enjoyable), assembling the bags, and looking at the beautiful mass of birthday bags when we're done.

Scrapbooks
I also like to create scrapbooks.  I made my first scrapbook when I was a freshman in high school - and continued making about a one scrapbook per year until I started grad school.  (Basically, my life was relatively boring during grad school so I didn't have much to scrapbook and I was very busy so I just threw scrapbook-type-stuff into one big notebook).  My adventures since then have been documented through scrapbooks.  I use the word "scrapbook" relatively loosely because I don't use fancy paper, stickers, stencils, stamps, etc.  I generally print 3x4 photos, cut articles from travel books, collect paper artifacts such as postcards, and then paste them neatly in nondescript books.  I tend not to buy souvenirs when I travel, so my scrapbooks serve as souvenirs.  I enjoy the process of reflecting on my adventures, the act of creating the scrapbooks, and the end product.

Greeting Cards
While I don't consider myself to be particularly great at it, I also enjoy making greeting cards using Stampin Up products.  It's satisfying to start with a stack of paper and a random bunch of stamps and to end with some (usually) pretty greeting cards.

Now...if only I could transfer my love of creating into the kitchen....
